You probably want to spend less on phones, tablets and their accessories or better still you don’t want to replace that your new device now? Oh! You don’t want to spend more on buying and repairing (fixing)—there’s good news for you!
I’m much more in your shoes, but some things actually help not just off the blues. If you really want to extend your Mobile devices’ lifespan, then these tips—well researched, not just opinions—will help to a higher degree.
- Follow the device’s instruction manual
Every device comes with embedded instructions on how to configure, make quick start settings, operation, external devices installation and the general usage as well. While we are desperate to “tear the rubber” and start using it, we often forget to read and understand these instructions. And we never knew how ignoring the manual added to killing our device’s life? Do well, to the best you can, to read and understand the instruction manual that comes with your device’s packaging before you start using your new device. It will actually help—if not then why was it included?
- Do not use off brand accessories
The best accessories to use are those that come with the device’s own pack, why? Those are branded and tested for safe use, taking into consideration compatibility issues among other important factors and hence using off brand accessories—especially, batteries and chargers—can add to the shortening of your device’s lifespan. Always look to original accessories from an authentic dealer if you have to replace one or two.
- Do not use that battery if it’s too old
You agree that an older battery has a lower ability to hold up a charge? It drains faster and needs to be charged often. Heat generation is yielded and you know lithium-ion batteries and heat are good enemies. This can affect the device’s body temperature. Do you know what happens to the circuit board when it receives or generates much heat? Well, most micro components get burnt and that’s the end of your device’s life!
- Protect the outer
While we care much about the device’s internal operation, we often ignore the outlook. The outlook also counts if we really want to hold the device for a longer lifespan. Liquids and moisture are part of the killing agents of mobile devices and even other electronic devices. Why not use a secondary light anti-moisture cover to protect the device from excessive moisture and liquids? It will help.
NB: the anti-moisture covering itself should not be heat generating. Contact an expert if you want to use one.
- Smartphone screens need protection
Anti-scratch screen protectors (screen guards) are also essential in extending a device’s lifespan—in relation to its screen. Most devices come with protective screen covers, if not, get one quality of a kind from an expert. Do not compromise quality, always look for the best even if it’s got to be expensive.
- Handling the mobile device
To the best of your ability, never drop your mobile device or at least do not mishandle it. Keep it away from liquids and avoidable moisture, heat and too much cold temperatures.
