“WhatsApp adds notification channels on Android 8.0 (Oreo) so you can now choose what to do with each notification type” Android Police.

With Android Oreo 8.0, you can fully, or at least somehow, customise app notifications. Such notification channels settings will prove helpful to Android users who will like to attach importance to some alerts and WhatsApp just seized the opportunity.

In the latest beta version of WhatsApp, ten (10) notification channels are supported, namely; Group Notifications, Message Notifications, Chat History Backup, Critical App Alerts, Failure Notifications, Media Playback, Uncategorized, Other Notifications, Sending Media as well as Silent Notifications, says Android Police who spotted the change recently and probably wrote a first online article about it.

For each of the notification channels above, there are individual sub settings that allows an easier means to control assign importance to different alerts within the same app. For example, an Android O WhatsApp user with the latest beta version can choose to place a high importance (priority) to regular messages, put a low priority to group messages or better disable messages for chat backups.

What more, a user can easily manage different notifications even without knowing which type it is just from the notification area. To change a WhatsApp notification’s priority from the notification dashboard, long press the target notification once it appears on screen. Tap All Categories to navigate to the settings screen and effect the necessary changes intended.

However, If you need to instantly disable a disturbing notification instantly, longpress the target alert from the notification widget to reveal its type. The type can now be easily disabled instantly on that current interface.
