You probably don’t want anybody to see that picture or video on your SD card? But once it’s running on an Android device there’s no way your “Gallery” will hide it for you. Still, you really don’t want anybody to see it? Well, you’ll need just a simple hack if you don’t want to lock it with a smart photo manager (needless app lockers can even be bypassed). This hack will never fail you.
So then, how do you hide SD card media (photos/videos) on an android device so that nobody sees it once they temper with your Gallery? Let’s get going, I’m in this with you.
How to hide Android media (hack)
Download ES File Explorer or any other advance file manager and install it on your Android device if you don’t have one (sorry, but default storage app on your Android device is not useful here).
Launch the app and locate the folder that hosts the media files you want to hide, Long press the target folder to select it and tap Rename below the current interface.
Add a dot (.) to the beginning of the folder name and save the new name, such as: rename My Media to .My Media for example.
Once this change is accepted, the content of that folder will be hidden when browsed from a gallery/Photo app on Android.
Alternatively, open the target folder containing the media to be hidden, create a new file (tap New below the explorer interface and select File) and name it .nomedia and that’s all it takes!
What if you decide to show them back?
NB: By default hidden files are still on the SD card but not visible in the file manager. If for example you use ES File Explorer and you want to see the hidden folder, follow the image below.
Open the navigation drawer (swipe the left end of the Explorer interface to right) and turn on “Show hidden files” (you can always turn this on and off). While it will be shown in this interface, its contents will still not be visible in its display app.
So to display them back in Android Gallery, just rename the folder back to the original (edit the folder name by removing the dot) using the same step. It’s that easy!
